Thread-lift/Contour
Threads
“Threading,” thread lifting, “Contour
Threads,” “Feather Lift” or “Aptos threads”
represent new techniques for minimally invasive facial rejuvenation.
The thread lifting technique was first developed in 1996 by Russian
surgeon and scientist Dr. Marlin Sulamanidze. He and his son George
Sulamanidze have refined the technique using suture material made
of polypropylene designed with bi-directional cogs. Once inserted
under the skin they can “anchor” or lift the facial
tissue into a new position. Once in position, new collagen fibers
will generate around the threads and cogs. The bidirectional threads
are also known as “Aptos threads” or “Tensor threads.”
Contour Threads™ are a patented self anchoring
thread technology that permits a minimally invasive surgical approach
for elevation and fixation of skin. Contour Threads™ are the
first FDA product cleared for market with current indications for
elevation and fixation of midface, brow and neck. They are similar
to Aptos threads, however use a uni-directional cog.
Dr. Albert Fox currently does not perform thread lifting.
He is awaiting further long-term outcomes and results before offering
these procedures to his patients. Dr. Fox is a member of the Emerging
Trends and Technology Committee with the American Academy of Facial
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and helps review upcoming trends
and procedures.
